Ignorance and Fear

One of the most important roles in my work is to address any issue with dying, especially ignorance and fear.  The two can be paralyzing!

Education and encouragement is so important for care givers.  There is a large number  of unexperienced and young people taking care of patients in facilities.  They need close observation and a listening ear regarding care for the dying person.

Fear has always been paralyzing!  As a Hospice Nurse I am forever being challenged at how to support and convince other care givers that death happens because of life, not because of medications!

Even I have to be reminded of these perspectives.
